This week, we had the pleasure of chatting to Sophie Baron, the phenomenal woman behind ‘mamamade’.
Mamamade is changing the face of baby food. Sohie, a former US Vogue contributor, started the business out of her North West London kitchen after she was unable to find healthy and fresh options for her daughter.

A bit about Sophie

A bit about me - I'm a New Yorker in London, on a mission to provide better tools to new parents - so that raising little ones can be more social, more restful and more fulfilling. Mama to 2-year-old Liba - the reason I do what I do! At Mamamade, we provide tools that empower parents to do things the way they want to - but faster, and without taking up precious mental bandwidth. Our first range of 10 products are nutrient-dense mixes that are ready to heat and can then be pureed, mashed or used whole (we provide recipes!) depending on your little one’s stage of development. We deliver these to your door (more than 5k delivered since March!) - saving you precious time on planning/shopping/prepping. So you have more time to spend with your little one (or on yourself!)

Hey Sophie, Tell us about Mamamade.

Mamamade exists to make parenting easier, healthier, more social and more fulfilling - because we believe that this will enhance the lives of children. We develop tools that empower parents to do things the way they want to - but faster, and without taking up precious mental bandwidth. Our first range of 12 products are nutrient-dense mixes that are ready to heat and can then be pureed, mashed or used whole depending on your little one’s stage of development. We deliver these to your door, saving precious time on planning/shopping/prepping. So you have more time to spend with your little one (or on yourself!)

What inspired you to start your own business?

It all started with the product, actually. I really struggled when I was weaning my daughter onto solids. I wanted her to have the best: home-cooked, organic, plant-based, flavourful and healthy everything. But I struggled to keep up with mealtimes. I was desperate for help and unwilling to compromise on her health or development. So I created a product for parents like me.

How do you balance motherhood & entrepreneurship?

It's really hard - let me know when you figure it out! But what is working at the moment is being really strict with my time and attention. For example, when I'm with my daughter, I really don't think or talk about work. I just smother her with attention. It means that when I am working, I'm really able to focus. And it's amazing how much can get achieved in 3 hours, when that's all you have...also scheduling in time for myself! Even just 10 minutes a day, it's so important to switch off the mind.

What advice would you give a mum who wants to start her own business

Don't let fear of the what-if hold you back. You've already done the hardest, scariest thing: Giving birth and raising a family. Plus, those are the only thing that really truly matter in this life. So why not take a risk with business? What's the worst that can really happen? At the very least, you'll learn a lot about yourself and an industry.

Fire Questions

One word to describe yourself ………impatient!

How do you relax…... I try to either spin or meditate every day. They both do a job for clearing the head.

Instagram or Twitter…… Instagram

How can women women empower other women …...Share stories! Be open! I've been so empowered by other women who have opened up about their own difficulties and hardships and how they overcame them. It's important to pass that on.
